Listen To Legacy

The Soft Boys have been described as one of the most criminally neglected British bands in Rock history, and I'm one of those who criminally neglected them.

But they have left a legacy of wonderful songs and song titles, and such talented artists as Kimberley Rew of Katrina And The Waves fame, and tonight's Leadmill visitor, Robyn Hitchcock.

The song titles included "The Man With The Lightbulb Head", "Do The Chisel", "Rock 'n' Roll Toilet", Sandra's Having Her Brain Out" and "(I Want To Be An) Anglepoise Lamp".

Robyn will be joined by The Egyptians, including Morris Windsor and Andy Metcalfe from The Soft Boys, and there are meant to be ex-members of the group in support band Yelll, too.

Robyn's prolific career since The Soft Boys' demise has produced records such as Fegmania!, Gotta Let This Hen Out!, Element Of Light, and a recent collection of outtakes, rarities and unreleased material, called Invisible Hithcock.

"His music is somewhere between Pink Floyd, Fairport Convention, and the sixth form common room," says Barrie Everard, of Record Collector.

"Syd Barrett is obviously an influence. It's a, sort of, intelligent public school humour. Robyn views life from a different angle and is a true English eccentric in the best sense of the word."
